Hi @Mohammad8484 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "Error 49" on your HP LaserJet MFP M139w printer is often related to firmware or communication issues. Here’s a systematic approach to resolve it:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.

If the error persists, proceed to the next step.

2. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer:
    • Visit the HP Software and Drivers page.
    • Enter your printer model (MFP M139w) and operating system (Windows 11).
    • Look for a "Firmware Update" option and download it.
  2. Install the firmware:
    • Connect the printer using the USB cable.
    • Run the firmware update utility and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Uninstall the existing driver:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.
  2. Install the latest driver:
    • Return to the HP Software and Drivers page.
    • Download and install the full-feature driver for your printer.

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  1. Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer's control panel for 10 seconds.
  2. Release the buttons once the printer starts resetting.
  3. Reconfigure the printer settings after the reset.

5. Disable Bi-Directional Communication (if using USB)

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  3. Go to the Ports tab.
  4. Uncheck Enable bi-directional support and click OK.

6. Test a Standalone Function

  • Try making a photocopy using the printer's control panel.
    • If the printer can copy without showing the error, the issue is likely related to software or connectivity.

7. Perform a Cold Reset (if available)

Some HP printers support a "cold reset" or "NVRAM reset." Refer to the printer manual or HP support for specific instructions for your model.
