CAN'T CONNECT PRINTER TO WI FI

True - To the extent that the router controls the network, if the router won't let your printer connect, there is generally a good reason.

Reminder to those reading -- the advice included in this message is general to the situation.

Everything is easier to figure out when you know the printer model,

Specific information is available in your printer's Printer Product Home

For example, see Category Manuals (User Guide), Software and Drivers, How-to, and Troubleshooting

Some of the places to (re)check...

=============================================

Network Defaults

A printer that won't connect to a new network might still think it should be connecting to the old network.

Resetting the printer's network defaults can clear that connection to make way for the new router and network.

Resetting the printer Network Defaults lets the printer find an IP address on the network – either one assigned by the router for the printer or an address made available by the router for devices trying to connect.

Network / Printer Discovery

Generally best to have these switched on,  especially if there are connection or installation issues.

Dual Band Network

If the printer does not support the network the router is providing, it won't connect.,

For example,

  • Older printers do not support 5GHz.
  • Newer printers might support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz but will do better when assigned to a separate SSID named network created and broadcasted on the frequency the printer should be using.
  • Printers do not generally "hop" between frequencies.

What you do in this situation depends on the router and how it can be configured to support the printer.

For example,

What the printer supports can generally be found in the printer's User Guide and / or the printer Specifications document.
