Hi @smiyama ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet 3830 is experiencing a DNS issue, which is preventing it from confirming network settings. The continuous clicking and inability to pass the DNS confirmation could be related to this network issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Restart the Printer and Network Devices
- Turn off your printer.
- Restart your router/modem.
- Wait for a few minutes, then turn on your router/modem.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the issue persists.
2. Check Printer Network Settings
- Go to the printer’s control panel.
- Navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
- Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
3. Reconfigure DNS Settings
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > DNS Configuration.
- You can either set the DNS to automatic (if it’s not already) or manually configure a reliable DNS server such as Google's DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. The updated firmware can often resolve connectivity and performance issues.
- Download and install any available updates from the HP website.
5. Run Network Diagnostics
- From the printer's control panel, run the Wireless Network Test and Network Configuration reports.
- These reports can provide more detailed information about the network status and any potential issues.
6. Factory Reset the Printer
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider performing a factory reset of the printer.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Reconfigure the network settings after the reset.
7. Check for Interference or Router Issues
- Ensure there are no significant sources of interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones) near your printer or router.
- Check if other devices on the same network are experiencing similar DNS issues. If they are, the problem might be with your router or ISP.
