HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Installing used printer 7855 on desktop windows 11. Printer is connected to router, and  the computer's WiFi discovers the printer. During the add printer process the printer password fails. The default password has been verified in the printer, but continues to be rejected. I have another computer using windows 11, that had previously worked fine on another network with this printer and continued to work fine after being reconfigured for my new network.  I have not been able to change  the printer password from default.   Do I need to do a printer factory reset and try again?  Please advise. Thanks

Hi @JT385,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble with the default password not being accepted during the setup process for your HP 7855 printer, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before resorting to a factory reset.

  • Double-check the default password: Make sure you're entering the default password correctly. Sometimes, mistyping can be the issue.
  • Restart your printer: Power off your printer, wait a minute, and then power it back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary communication issues.
  • Ensure correct network connection: Make sure your printer is properly connected to the same network as your Windows 11 desktop. If it's connected via Ethernet cable, ensure the cable is securely plugged in. If it's connected wirelessly, ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • Try a different setup method: Instead of using the default password, try setting up the printer using alternative methods like WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) if your printer and router support it. This can sometimes bypass the need for a password during setup.
  • Update printer firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP 7855 printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
  • Reset network settings on the printer: This is a less drastic step than a factory reset. Many printers have an option to reset network settings separately from a full factory reset. Look for this option in your printer's settings menu and try resetting the network settings.

If none of these steps work, then you may consider performing a factory reset on your printer. However, be aware that a factory reset will erase all custom settings on your printer, including network settings, so you'll need to set it up from scratch again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
