My HP 8600 Office Jet Pro( CN579A) no longer can use its scan function. Using Embedded Web Server, Printer Test Page shows it as Office Jet Pro 8500 A909g with its own serial number; product number CBO23A; and model number N911n. Problem abruptly began when I tried to add a new HP ENVY Convertible 360 laptop to my local network. The 8600 quickly went through series of firmware ink cartridge issues: missing, counterfeit, damaged, shutdown, service, etc. A reset got the 8600 printer working again (with no ink drama) but the scan function has acquired a different identity as indicated. That's probably why the printer cannot find the non-existent 8500 on my local network? The 8500 info shows 5 cartridges, one with the yellow triangle indicated. It has been an 8600 since registered with HP about 6 years ago. Attempts to eliminate the 8500 from EWS have been unsuccessful. I removed the ENVY Convertible because of the issues that arose. How do I restore the scan function to the HP 8600 in the EWS?

Hi Krazy: Just a follow-up to my HP8600 N911g listed in EWS as HP8500 A909. A semi-full reset was not able to reset the EWS for correction. In fact, none of several other resets were able to clear the EWS. Through engineering/service modes I was able to change the printer hostname & MAC, then used Windows printers/devices to clear/delete misconfigured ports, and all references to the 8500 . Used HP Support Asst to add a new printer and only used the 8600 info. That worked to the point that the 8600 was now seen and the 8500 was not. However, when trying to connect the "new" 8600 to the network--it was "not found" by Support Asst or Print-Scan Dr. Used Win add printer and it showed on WIN Printer Test Page as "HP8600 (HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g)"! URL for EWS is for HP8600, Hostname is HP8600, serial number is not from my 8600, and driver name is "HP Officejet Pro A909g Series Class Driver"...The EWS looks unchanged but my 9600 now prints. So I'll let it go till I try to add it once again to my fairly new HP X360 convertible.
Two other points. If I turn the printer off it will only start with notice of ink problem/ leaking cartridge/ turn off and contact HP. Not true but I have to use mfg menu to enable a restart. Also, when entering EWS, Internet frequently cites an unsafe certificate dated 2011( issued by HP in Vancouver, Washington). I once saw that in the EWS. The 8600 is an excellent printer so I'll just leave it at that. Thanks for your assistance.
