Hi @teezegirl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 7300 is not being recognized on the network by the HP Assistant, it could be due to several factors, such as compatibility issues with newer software, network settings, or printer configurations. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  • Confirm that the network cable is securely connected or the Wi-Fi signal is strong if using wireless.
  • Print a network configuration page from the printer to verify that it has an IP address on your network.

Update Printer Firmware (if available):

  • Visit HP’s support website to check if there is a firmware update for your HP Officejet 7300 that could improve network compatibility.
  • Install the firmware update, if available.

Verify Printer's IP Address:

  • Open the network configuration page on your computer by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  • Ensure that the IP address is correct and not conflicting with other devices on the network.

Reinstall Printer on the Network:

  • Delete the printer from Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  • Re-add the printer by selecting Add a Printer and choose the network printer option.
  • If your HP Assistant software still doesn’t recognize it, try adding the printer manually using the IP address.

Reset Network Settings on Printer:

  • Reset the network settings on the HP Officejet 7300 and reconnect it to the network.
  • For older printers, network settings might need to be reset by pressing a combination of buttons (check the user manual for specific instructions).

Ensure HP Software Compatibility:

  • Since your printer is an older model, the HP Assistant may not fully support it. You might need to use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool (available on the HP website) or download the full driver package specifically for the Officejet 7300 series.

Check Firewall and Security Software:

  • Disable your firewall and security software temporarily to see if it is blocking communication between the printer and your computer.

Assign a Static IP:

  • On your router, you can assign a static IP address to the printer to prevent network issues.

Try these steps to see if the printer appears on the network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
