Am trying to set up my printer ( HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw) to sync with new Wi-Fi router. the control panel shows the wifi symbol "printer in an error state". On the printer control panel I cannot enter any settings without entering a password, which it does not accept (nor the network security key or the Network name (SSID).

@rgnd66, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw Wi-Fi Setup!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw printer displays an error state when trying to connect to a new Wi-Fi router, and you are unable to enter settings without being prompted for a password, here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
1. Restart Devices
- Turn off the printer and the new Wi-Fi router.
- Wait 15 seconds, then turn the Wi-Fi router back on.
- Turn the printer back on and wait for it to become idle.
2. Reset Printer Network Settings
- On the printer control panel, restore the network settings to default. This can be done via the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) or by performing a factory reset.
- Press the Wireless button to access the Wi-Fi settings.
- Go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
3. Connect the Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
If your printer and router support Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS):
- Push Button:
- Press the Wireless button on the printer until the wireless light blinks.
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- PIN:
- The printer control panel should generate a PIN.
- Enter the PIN in the router’s setup screen within 2 minutes.
4. Manual Setup via USB Cable
If the WPS method does not work:
- Download and install the HP Smart app on your computer.
- Connect your printer to the computer using a USB cable.
- Open HP Smart and the app should detect the printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your new Wi-Fi credentials.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
