@budgie4, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble with your HP Laser MFP 140we printer frequently going offline and the serial number not being recognized. You've already tried restarting your modem, router, printer, and PC, great first steps!

Let’s go through a few more steps to resolve this:

Ensure Printer is Connected to the Internet

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button to check the connection status.
  2. If it's not connected, use the HP Smart App to reconnect:
    • Download or open the HP Smart App.
    • Add your printer and follow the prompts to connect it to Wi-Fi.

Set Printer to “Online” Manually

  1. On your Windows 10 PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  3. In the new window, click Printer in the menu bar.
  4. Uncheck Use Printer Offline if it’s selected.

Reinstall the Printer Using HP Smart

  1. Uninstall the printer from Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Reinstall using the HP Smart App to ensure the latest drivers and firmware are installed.

Serial Number Not Recognized

If the serial number is not recognized:

  • Double-check the serial number on the printer label (usually at the back or inside the cartridge access area).
  • Make sure you're entering it correctly on the HP Warranty Check page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
