HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer

I changed WiFi providers and I cannot get my HP6400 to connect to the new wifi.  It is in WiFi mode (purple) but the app does not recognize it.  I’ve followed all instructions.

It sounds like you've followed the basic troubleshooting steps, which is a good start. Here are a few more steps you can try to get your HP ENVY Pro 6455 connected to your new WiFi network.

 

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from power, wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reset the Printer Network Settings: You can try resetting the printer's network settings to default. To do this, go to the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings, and look for an option to reset network settings. After resetting, go through the setup process again to connect to your new WiFi network.
  • Connect Manually: If the automatic setup isn't working, you can try connecting to your new WiFi network manually. On the printer's control panel, navigate to the wireless settings and choose the option to manually enter the WiFi network name (SSID) and password.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for firmware updates from the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart app.
  • Check WiFi Settings: Double-check your new WiFi network settings to ensure they are compatible with the printer. Make sure you're using the correct network name (SSID) and password.
  • Move Closer to the Router: Sometimes, the printer may have difficulty connecting if it's too far away from the WiFi router. Try moving the printer closer to the router during setup.
  • Check for Interference: Nearby electronic devices or thick walls can sometimes interfere with WiFi signals. Try moving the printer to a different location to see if it helps with connectivity.

Hello Alden4,

 

Thank you for your advice. 

 

My printer is an HP 6400 Envy.   It does not have a control panel, so, aside from the restarts, I cannot attempt the actions that you suggested.   Is there another way to execute these actions that does not involve a control panel?

If your HP Envy 6400 printer doesn't have a control panel, it might be a bit trickier to perform certain actions, but it's still possible to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi connectivity issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.

 

  • Printer Reset: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on again. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check Wi-Fi Direct Mode: Some HP printers support Wi-Fi Direct, which allows you to connect your device directly to the printer without needing a wireless router. Check if your printer supports this feature and try connecting your device directly to the printer's Wi-Fi network.
  • HP Smart App: If your printer supports it, you can use the HP Smart app on your smartphone or tablet to set up the printer on a new Wi-Fi network. Install the app from your device's app store, open it, and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to Wi-Fi.
  • WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): If your router supports WPS, you can try connecting your printer to the Wi-Fi network using this method. Press the WPS button on your router, then press the WPS button on your printer (if available). They should automatically connect to each other.
  • USB Connection: If all else fails, you can temporarily connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable. Once connected, you can access the printer settings through your computer and reconfigure the Wi-Fi settings.
