HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer - H711n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

"c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\HP\HPOfficeJet6700\HPOfficeJet6700.Ink" will not open. When I click on the file "OfficeJet6700", nothing comes up.  I use a USB connect and the printer still works fine. I have used HP Support Assistant...Virtual Repair Centre and Support Trouble Shooting but no luck.

Hi @Wellgo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with printer software icon or link for your Printer.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Check the File Path: Make sure the file path is correct. The shortcut should typically be in the Start Menu under HP. You can manually navigate to the folder and see if the shortcut exists.

Recreate the Shortcut: If the shortcut is missing or broken, you can recreate it:

  • Go to the printer’s installation directory (usually found in C:\Program Files\HP\HPOfficeJet6700).
  • Find the main executable file (usually a .exe file) for the printer software.
  • Right-click it and select "Create Shortcut."
  • Move the new shortcut to the Start Menu folder.

Reinstall the Printer Software: If the shortcut is corrupted or the software is not functioning correctly, consider reinstalling the HP printer software:

  • Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Uninstall the current software through Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Install the new drivers and software.

Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, missing updates can cause issues. Make sure your Windows is up to date.

Sorry for the delay. I've tried everything you suggested but unable to located HP.exe.  For whatever reason, it's gone. I've downloaded the software and drivers again from HP and rebooted my pc. The H6700 icon came back on the desktop but it will not open. I tried to open HP6700 in the Program Files but  it will not open . Still not able to get Printer Asssistant back and I can only get 3 or the 4 colours working on my printer. I was wondering if I should just delete the whole HP program from my PC and then use the printer CD to start from stratch.

Hi @Wellgo,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.

D)  Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Refer to this link for more information related to the issue.
