I have the instant ink monthly service but when I open the hp smart app it says my printer is "ready to print" but on the printer's window says " x HP Instant Ink Status, cannot print . Visit www.hpinstantink.com for information"

I'm tired of being doing the factory reset, I use the printer for home stuff,  I even turned off the router and configure it, but anything works. I still paying the monthly ink service but I'm afraid to run it out of printing.

Now I have another message on the printer saying:

x DNS/Gateway problem

The printer could bot connect to the server.

Contact the person who set up the printer. Touch "print" to diagnose the problem or "ok" to exit.

So I choose "print" and again the message about xHp instant ink problem. So frustrating!

Hi @AnnaMartz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with issues related to HP Instant Ink, especially when your printer isn’t connecting properly. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot the problem with your HP 4650 printer:

1. Check Internet Connection

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Make sure your printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network. Check that the printer’s wireless light is on and not blinking or off.
  • Power Cycle Router: Turn off your router, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

2. Verify DNS/Gateway Settings

a. Access Printer Settings:

  • Printer Menu: Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup or Network Settings, and look for network configuration options.

b. Check DNS/Gateway Settings:

  • Obtain IP Address: Ensure the printer is obtaining an IP address automatically (via DHCP) and that DNS settings are configured correctly.

c. Reconfigure Network Settings:

  • Reconfigure Network: If you see incorrect settings or the printer is not connecting, try reconnecting it to your Wi-Fi network using the setup wizard on the printer’s control panel.

3. Check HP Instant Ink Status

a. Verify Account Information:

  • HP Instant Ink Website: Go to HP Instant Ink and log in to your account. Check if there are any alerts or issues with your subscription.
  • Check Subscription Status: Ensure that your subscription is active and there are no payment issues.

b. Refresh Printer Connection:

  • Refresh Connection: In the HP Smart app, go to the printer settings and select Refresh or Update Printer.

4. Update Printer Firmware

a. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings, and look for firmware updates. Install any available updates.
  • HP Support Website: Alternatively, visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your HP 4650 model.

5. Perform Printer Diagnostic

a. Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Printer Menu: Use the printer’s control panel to print a diagnostic page or test page. This can sometimes help identify connectivity or configuration issues.

6. Reset Printer Network Settings

a. Reset Network Settings:

  • Access Settings: On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi: After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the setup wizard.

7. Reinstall HP Smart App

  • Uninstall and Reinstall: Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer or mobile device and then reinstall it from the HP website or app store.
  •  Printer Again: Open the HP Smart app, add your printer again, and follow the setup instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
