Hi @cpaq123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The HP Envy 4520 printer might have limitations regarding certain symbols in the Wi-Fi password. To resolve this, you can either change your network password to exclude the symbol that the printer does not accept or set up the printer using a different method such as WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

Changing the Network Password

  1. Access your router's settings: This is usually done by typing the router's IP address (often something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into your web browser.
  2. Log in: Use the username and password for your router.
  3. Change the Wi-Fi password: Navigate to the wireless settings and change the password to something that doesn't include special characters that the printer can't accept.
  4. Reconnect devices: Update the Wi-Fi password on all devices connected to your network.

Using WPS

  1. Check if your router supports WPS: Look for a WPS button on your router.
  2. Prepare the printer: On the printer, go to the Wi-Fi setup menu.
  3. Initiate WPS: Select the WPS option on the printer and press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes.

Using HP Smart App

  1. Download HP Smart App: If you haven't already, download the HP Smart App on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Open the app: Follow the prompts to add a new printer.
  3. Set up a new network: When prompted, enter your network details manually without using the restricted symbol.

The best way to set up admin password is via the printer's EWS.

As the printer is connected on the network, get the IP address of the printer first.

  • Access EWS of the printer just to confirm if the PC and the printer and communicating to each other.
  • On the Printer Home Screen, select Set Up.
    Select Network Set Up,
    Select Wireless Settings.
Look for View Wireless details, select it.
The printer here displays the IP Address. (e.g - 10.0.0.23,,, 192.168.2.3)
Make a note of the IP Address.
Open any Web Browser and just the IP address in the browser address bar and hit enter.
    The Printer page should open.
If the printer page opens it means the PC and the printer are communicating to each other.

  • Go to the Tools Tab.
  • Select Security>
  • Select Password and enter the password there.
  • It might re direct to a secure page, if you receive message to continue to the page, please do that and then enter the password and apply.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
