Hi @NateB83 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to connect your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w printer to your Wi-Fi network, you generally follow these steps:
1. Connect the Printer to the Wi-Fi Network
You need to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network before you can use it to print. Here’s how you can do it:
Using the HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart App: Download and install the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer from the HP website or from your app store.
- Open the HP Smart App: Open the app and click on the "+" sign to add a printer.
- Set Up a New Printer: Follow the prompts to set up a new printer. The app will search for printers and prompt you to select your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: When asked, enter your Wi-Fi network name and password. The app will handle the connection process for you.
Using the WPS Button (If Available):
- Locate the WPS Button: Check if your router has a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button. This is often a physical button on the router.
- Press the WPS Button on the Router: Press the WPS button on your router.
- Press the WPS Button on the Printer: Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for at least 3 seconds or until the wireless light starts blinking. The printer should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.
2. Install Printer Drivers on Your Laptop- Software and Drivers for HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer
Once the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network, you need to install the necessary drivers on your laptop.
Using the HP Website:
- Go to the HP Support Page: Visit the HP Support Page.
- Search for Your Printer Model: Enter "HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w" in the search bar.
- Download Drivers: Download the recommended drivers for your operating system.
- Install the Drivers: Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.
Using the HP Smart App:
- Add the Printer: Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.
- Connect to the Printer: Click on the "+" sign to add a printer and follow the prompts to connect the printer to your laptop.
Troubleshooting
- Check Printer and Router Proximity: Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
- Restart Devices: Restart both the printer and the router if they are not connecting.
- Check Wi-Fi Network: Make sure your Wi-Fi network is functioning properly and other devices can connect to it.
Addressing the PIN Request
If your HP laptop asks for a PIN from the back of the router:
- Find the PIN: Look for a sticker on your router. It might be labeled as "WPS PIN" or "PIN".
- Alternative Setup: If you cannot find the PIN, try using the WPS button method or the HP Smart app setup as described above.
