<p>Hello,&nbsp;<br /><br />We have a printer that printer that prints wireless pretty well. The public is allowed to print from our printer directly wirelessly directly, and we seem to run into intermittent issues when people are printing .pdfs from iPhones. Occasionally they will send the item to the printer, the printer will flash green on the top like its receiving the print job....and then nothing happens. Sometimes the job will eventually spit out 6 to 12 hours later.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>We have tried rebooting the printer(doesn't work).&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>We have tried printing other files from the same device(works fine)</p>

<p>Tried printing other files from different devices (works fine)</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Any ideas?&nbsp;</p>

Hi @DB03904

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is generally working fine, but it encounters intermittent issues when printing PDFs from iPhones. Since other files print successfully from the same device, the problem likely lies with how the printer is handling PDF print jobs from iOS devices.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check for Printer Firmware Updates

Sometimes printing issues with specific file types, like PDFs, can be due to outdated printer firmware. Check if your printer has any available firmware updates:

  • Check through the Printer’s Menu: You can usually check for firmware updates directly from the printer’s settings menu.
  • HP Smart App: If you are using an HP printer, the HP Smart app allows you to check for and install updates directly from your mobile device.
  • Printer’s Web Interface: If your printer is networked, you can also access its web interface by typing its IP address into a browser.

2. Reinstall the Printer on the iOS Device

There may be a communication issue between the iPhone and the printer when handling PDF files. Try removing and then re-adding the printer to your iPhone.

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth (or Wi-Fi, depending on how your printer is connected).
  • Remove or forget the printer from the list of devices.
  • Reconnect the printer by searching for it under the printer options when you try to print again.

3. Try Printing from a Different App

It’s possible that the issue lies with the app you're using to view the PDF. Sometimes, certain apps don't handle printing properly to wireless printers.

  • Use the Default iOS PDF Reader: Try printing from the built-in Apple Books or Files app instead of a third-party PDF viewer (like Adobe Acrobat Reader or other apps).
  • Other Apps: Test the issue by printing the PDF from different apps (e.g., iBooks, Mail, or Safari) to see if the issue persists across all apps.

4. Check PDF File Integrity

There may be a problem with the specific PDF file being printed, especially if it's large or contains complex graphics that the printer struggles to process.

  • Try Printing a Simpler PDF: Test printing a smaller or less complex PDF file to see if the issue persists.
  • Re-create or re-download the PDF: If you’re having trouble with a specific PDF, try opening it on your iPhone and re-save or re-download it to see if this resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
