After updating  my Mac book Pro to Sonoma 14.6.1 OS, all print orders sent wirelessly to my HP Laser Jet Printer MFP M225, M226 go directly to the Que where they remain stuck. I've read this OS and this printer are incompatible. I've also read in the HP website that there currently is no OS compatible with my printer.  Is there a fix other than buying a new printer whenever my OS is upgraded?

Hi @JRM48 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw and MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 is due to compatibility problems between the printer's driver and the latest macOS version. Unfortunately, older printer models like the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw may not receive official driver updates for newer macOS versions.

Here are some potential fixes you can try before considering a new printer:

1. Use AirPrint Set up the HP printer with AirPrint in macOS

macOS supports AirPrint, which is a built-in feature for many printers, including HP printers. If your printer supports AirPrint (it should for your model), you can try using it instead of the traditional HP drivers. To set it up:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook.
  • In the Print dialog on your Mac, select your HP LaserJet printer, and check if AirPrint is available as a printing option.

2. Download the Latest HP Drivers HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw Software and Driver

Even if official updates seem scarce, it's worth checking for the latest drivers on HP's support website, particularly under their "HP Easy Start" or "HP Smart" tools, which may include updated drivers that might be compatible with macOS Sonoma.

  • Visit the HP support page.
  • Search for your printer model (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw).
  • Download the latest available macOS drivers or installation package.

3. Use Generic PostScript Driver

If specific HP drivers are not working, you can try using a generic PostScript printer driver that might work with your model:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Options & Supplies.
  • Under Print Using, choose Generic PostScript Printer from the list of available drivers.

4. Reset the Printing System

Sometimes resetting the printer system on macOS can clear stuck print jobs and allow the printer to function again.

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list on the left and choose Reset printing system.
  • Re-add your printer and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
