Good morning,
Bought this device a couple of weeks ago and trying the setup the scan option.
Trying to access the EWS and login to change some settings.
- I can access the EWS
- Login fails with "admin and the WPS PIN", "admin without password"
- made a factory reset, WPS PIN ist the same login is not possible
- used Firefox, Chrome on Mac and Windows
Could it be, that this model does not support configuration via EWS?

Hi @kiste,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg should indeed support configuration via the Embedded Web Server (EWS). If you're having trouble accessing it, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify Default Login Credentials:
- The default username is typically admin.
- The default password can often be the WPS PIN, which is usually printed on a label on the printer itself or within the information report printed from the device.
2. Reset Network Settings:
- Since a factory reset didn't help, try resetting only the network settings. Sometimes a full factory reset doesn't reset network settings to their defaults.
- To reset network settings:
- Go to the control panel on the printer.
- Navigate to Network Settings.
- Select Reset Network Settings.
3. Check Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with login and configuration.
- To update the firmware, you can usually do this through the HP Smart app or by downloading the firmware from HP's support website.
4. Check Browser Compatibility:
- You mentioned trying Firefox and Chrome on both Mac and Windows. Ensure that these browsers are up to date.
- Clear the cache and cookies of the browsers, as stale data can sometimes cause login issues.
5. Alternate Access Methods:
- Some HP printers allow for setup and configuration through the HP Smart app, which can be downloaded on your mobile device or computer.
- You can also try accessing the EWS from a different device or network to rule out any network-specific issues.
6. Ensure Correct IP Address:
- Make sure you are entering the correct IP address of the printer in the browser. Double-check the IP address from the printer's display or print a network configuration page.
7. Hard Reset:
- As a last resort, if none of the above steps work, perform a hard reset (if not already done during the factory reset):
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.
