Hi @Choward1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you are navigating the on-screen keyboard for your HP Envy printer and cannot find the specific special characters required for your Wi-Fi password. Because the default view usually only shows letters and numbers, you must manually toggle to the symbols sub-menu to locate the dollar sign.

Access the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard

  • Touch the Wireless icon or the Settings (gear) icon on the printer's home screen.
  • Select Network Setup or Wireless Settings, then choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your network name from the list to bring up the on-screen keyboard.

Toggle the keyboard to Special Characters

  • Look for a button on the bottom-left or bottom-right of the touch keyboard labeled 123 or ?#!.
  • Tap this button to switch from the alphabetical layout to the numbers and common symbols layout.
  • If you still do not see the $ symbol, look for a "Page 2" arrow or a More button to reveal additional special characters.

Enter the symbol and complete the connection

  • Tap the $ symbol once it appears on the screen to add it to your password string.
  • Toggle back to the letter layout (usually labeled abc) to finish entering the rest of your password.
  • Press OK or Done to initiate the connection attempt to your router.

Use the HP Smart App (Recommended).

The easiest way to enter a complex password is to use the HP Smart app on your phone or computer, which bypasses the printer's limited screen keyboard.

  • Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer (usually holding the Wireless/Power buttons until the light flashes).
  • Open the HP Smart app and select "Add Printer."
  • When prompted for the Wi-Fi password, type it into the app. This will send the password with the $ symbol to the printer.

Connect via WPS (No Password Required)

If your router has a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button, you can connect without typing the password at all.

  • Touchscreen Models: Select Wireless Settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup > Push Button.
  • Non-Touchscreen Models: Hold the Wireless button until the light blinks. Within 2 minutes, press the

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
