HP ENVY Inspire 7224e All-in-One Printer

Hi.  When I go to use my HP Envy Inspire 7200 it, more often than not, tells me it is offline - it isn't!  I have to shut it down and restart it, then it will work for a few prints and do it again.  My husband's laptop doesn't have this problem, it just prints each time.  It's driving me insane!

Anyone any ideas?  I have updated the drivers.

Hi @Melindagh,

Thank you for the response.

Since @VikramTheGreat is not available at the moment, I'll be assisting you further.

Here's what you try next:

Set a Static IP for Your Printer

So it doesn't change and confuse your PC:

On the printer, go to Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi > Network Summary

Note the IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.101)

On your browser, type that IP to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration

Set to Manual IP and keep the same IP, Subnet, and Gateway

Click Apply

This way your laptop always knows where to find the printer.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer (the right way)

Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners

Click your HP printer → Remove Device

Restart your laptop (quick nap 😴)

Now, open HP Smart, go to Add Printer → choose it by IP

If HP Smart doesn’t work well, go to Control Panel and Manually add a printer using IP address:

Choose "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address"

Type the static IP you saved earlier

Disable “Use Printer Offline” Setting

Sometimes it sneakily turns itself on. 🙄

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers

Right-click your printer > See what’s printing

In the window, click Printer (top left) → make sure “Use Printer Offline” is UNCHECKED

Let’s Make Sure It’s Your Default Printer

Because Windows loves to get confused.

In Settings > Printers & Scanners, make sure “Let Windows manage my default printer” is OFF

Manually set your Envy Inspire 7200 as default

I hope this helps.

Hi, @Melindagh,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to deal with intermittent offline errors on the HP Envy Inspire 7200, especially when the printer works fine on other devices. It’s great that we know the printer itself is functioning correctly—now we just need to get it working smoothly with your PC.

To help resolve this, let’s try the following steps:

1️. Update the Printer Firmware

  • Open the HP Smart app or visit HP’s support website to check for firmware updates.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart your printer.

2️. Perform a Hard Reset on the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds to clear any residual power.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Please uninstall the HP Smart app --> restart the Device, Wi-Fi router and printer --> install it back and check

After trying these steps, check if your PC still shows the offline error. If the issue persists, let me know, and we’ll explore other solutions together! 😊

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
