HP Envy 4525

I have an HP Envy 4525 which I used frequently to scan wirelessly from my Dell laptop using the HP Smart app.

Today, when I tried to do the same, the app could not locate the printer / scanner even when I entered the printer's ip address.  I have tried troubleshooting and following all the advice on HP's website without success.

I have re-set the wifi settings for the printer and ensured both printer and laptop are on the same network.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the app and am still unable to get it to recognise the printer.

Nothing has changed with my set up since I was last able to successfully scan except of course for the inevitable Windows updates!  I am on Windows 365.

Any advice gratefully received.  Thanks.

Hi @DET29,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP Envy 4525 printer and the HP Smart app. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps that you can try to resolve the issue:

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, router, and laptop.
  • Wait for a few minutes.
  • Turn on the router first and let it fully boot up.
  • Turn on the printer and let it connect to the network.
  • Finally, turn on your laptop.

Check Windows Firewall and Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the HP Smart app or the printer’s communication.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall/antivirus and check if the printer is recognized.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check and update the firmware through the printer's control panel or HP's website.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many issues related to the printer and its connection.

Check Network Configuration:

  • Make sure your printer and laptop are on the same network and not on a guest network which might have restricted access.
  • Verify the IP address of your printer. Sometimes, a reset might change its IP address.

Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer:

  • On your printer's control panel, go to the network settings.
  • Set a static IP address for your printer to avoid changes and conflicts.
  • Reconfigure the HP Smart app with the new static IP address.

Re-add the Printer:

  • Open the Control Panel on your laptop.
  • Go to “Devices and Printers”.
  • Remove the HP Envy 4525 if it’s listed there.
  • Click on “Add a printer” and let Windows try to find it again.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the printer drivers from your laptop.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP Support site and install them.

Network Reset:

  • Perform a network reset on your printer. This usually involves holding down the wireless button until it starts blinking or using the printer’s control panel to reset network settings.
  • Reconnect your printer to the Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
