Brand new HP smart tank printer. After trying to set up with computer with no success, I was able to set it up with my phone. I shut it off before going to bed and got up the next morning and turned it back on with no success in it finding the wifi. I guess it used bluetooth on my phone to connect to the router. It did work. Now, I tried to redownload the HP smart to reconnect and I keep getting a bluetooth time out. Please help. It's brand new

Hi @1973Capri,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Smart Tank 5101 printer is unable to find Wi-Fi after being turned off for the night, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Restart Printer and Router

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.
  • Once both the printer and router are back on, wait for them to reconnect.

2. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength

  • Make sure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router and there are no significant obstructions or interference (e.g., walls, metal objects) between them.
  • If possible, try moving the printer closer to the router to see if it connects.

3. Reconfigure Wi-Fi Settings Using HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device (computer or smartphone).
  • Ensure that your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
  • In the HP Smart app, select your printer and go to Network Setup or Wi-Fi Settings.
  • Follow the steps to re-add the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

4. Forget Wi-Fi Network and Reconnect

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Wireless Settings and forget the current network.
  • Then, use the HP Smart app or the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer to connect it to the Wi-Fi network again.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @1973Capri,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure that the printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
  • Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause connection issues.

6. Check for Router Settings

  • Make sure your router's settings (such as MAC address filtering or dual-band networks) aren’t preventing the printer from connecting.
  • If your router operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, ensure the printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz network (as many printers do not support 5 GHz).

7. Perform a Network Reset on Printer

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Network Settings and perform a Network Reset.
  • After resetting, try to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app.

You may also perform the steps if required from this document

If the problem persists after these steps, there may be a deeper issue with the printer’s wireless module or the router’s configuration. You may need to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Keep me posted for further assistance
