HP Recommended

Received a new router now my printer doesn’t work. I tried connecting to the new wifi and nothing. The printer’s network  “hpsetup” (something like that) will not show up. Customer service instructed me to use some other hp network which required a password. I was told to hold down specific buttons on printer to receive a printout of password and nothing!
I tried restarting my router, printer and wifi/phone. Still nothing..
how can I get my printer to work?

@Mellissap, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Reconnecting Your HP Printer to a New Router!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you've received a new router and your HP printer is having trouble connecting to the new Wi-Fi network, follow these steps to reconnect your printer:

Reconnect Your Printer Using Wireless Setup Wizard

For printers with a touchscreen control panel:

  1. Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu.
  2. Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your network name and enter the password.

Reconnect Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

For printers without a touchscreen control panel:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash.
  2. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on your router until the connection process begins.
  3. The printer wireless light will stop flashing once the connection is complete.

Reconnect Using HP Smart App

Use the HP Smart app for guided setup:

  1. Download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, iOS, iPadOS) or the respective app stores for Windows and macOS.
  2. Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the new Wi-Fi network.

Troubleshooting Steps

If the above methods don't resolve the issue, try these additional steps:

Restart Devices

  1. Restart your printer and your router by disconnecting the power cords, waiting 15 seconds, and then reconnecting.
  2. Restart your computer or mobile device.

Check Printer Connection Status

  1. Ensure the wireless signal on your printer is on and connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device.
  2. If the printer has a Wireless icon or button, ensure the light is on. If it is off or blinking, the printer is disconnected from the network.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
