New software won't let my computer connect to my printer. HP Envy 4520

macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I have been using my Envy 4520 for several years. When I updated the HP smart ap on my computer it stopped connecting to my computer. I can print from my phone but the computer won't do it anymore. When I seek support on the HP ap it just sends me in an endless loop. The Virtual Agent doesn't recognize my question. Any suggestions? Thank you.

@ARTBRENT, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your Mac. To assist you better, do you get any errors while printing?

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
  • Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Install the printer using AirPrint driver(recommended) as shown in this document - Printing with Apple AirPrint

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
