Hi @Susan19481,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re having trouble with both your Windows 10 wireless settings and installing your HP Deskjet 2842e printer. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot.
Troubleshooting Wireless Settings in Windows 10
Check Network Adapter Status:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
- Expand the Network adapters section and ensure that your wireless network adapter is listed and enabled. If it's not there, or has a yellow warning icon, you might need to update or reinstall the driver.
Update Network Adapter Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click your wireless adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.
Check Wireless Services:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Ensure the WLAN AutoConfig service is running. If it’s not, right-click it, select Start, and set the Startup type to Automatic.
Run Network Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Internet Connections and follow the prompts.
Installing the HP Deskjet 2842e Printer
Download the Latest Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website.
- Search for HP Deskjet 2842e and download the latest drivers and software for Windows 10.
Install the Printer:
- Run the downloaded driver installation file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, choose the Wireless installation option.
Connect to the Printer:
- Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your wireless network.
- On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner. Windows should find your HP Deskjet 2842e. Select it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
Check Printer and Network Settings:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- If your printer has a display, navigate to the wireless settings and ensure it’s connected to your network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
