OfficeJet 250 Mobile
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hello,

the Officejet 250 Mobile is connected to the same Wifi network as my MacBook with Catalina OS. Sidecar (using iPad as a second monitor) works over this Wifi network. So machines can interact. The printer has an IP address and shows up in the Lanscan as well as in the printer setup dialog of my MacBook. When choosing Airprint as a driver there's a printer not responding message. The printer is connected to the internet and has successfully downloaded and installed the latest firmware update. However - the printer embedded web interface is not responding (neither with the IP address nor with the host name). The printer does not react to PING. Printing results in a 'not responding' message. HP Smart can't fix the issue. Factory reset and switching on and off did not solve the issue. Neither did a printing system reset in OS X.

Can you help?

Kind regards,

Marco

@mda3172, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps:

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the MAC

  • Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Kumar0307,

Thank you so much for getting back!

I was able to solve the issue. It will probably be a rather rare occurrence. The Wifi router is part of a Sonicwall firewall. I created a firewall rule that allows for any service to connect to any device on the Wifi network. That is a solution I will have to revisit with a specialist from Sonicwall, as I suspect it is not the most secure thing to do. Would you know what a more restrictive firewall rules would need to contain to keep the printer working? With the "any to any" firewall rule the printer now works for wireless printing from the Mac and also with Airprint from the iPhone or iPad.

Also, another issue. I created an admin password in the embedded web server under settings, security, password settings. The password was generated by a password manager and i copied and pasted it from there into the password fields. This method works fine for pretty much every login I use. When the printer asked for credentials in EWS i entered admin as username and copied and pasted the password from the password manager. Didn't work, I was basically locked out from the web interface. I found a button to reset the printer and EWS password. Now I have the EWS without password. Is there a solution in which I can set a password and don't lock myself out?

Kind regards,

@mda3172

Glad to know that you found a solution and the issue is resolved. You may manually assign a password to the EWS page of the printer to secure it.

Every time you try to login to the printer's EWS page, it will ask you for the credentials. For more info, refer to - Using the HP Printer Embedded Web Server

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
