Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a OfficeJet 8600 Plus connecting wireless.  It prints just fine.  However, when I use HP Scan and Capture it will not scan.  I get the following messages in the upper left hand corner - Device not found, then when I hit scan again I get the message that the device is busy.

Hi @ArtyP,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Ensure Connection Stability:

  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to your wireless network and that the connection is stable.
  • Make sure your computer is connected to the same network as the printer.

Restart Devices:

  • Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Wait for about 60 seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Computer: Restart your computer to refresh network settings and services.

Check for Updates:

  • Ensure that both the printer firmware and scanning software (HP Scan and Capture) are up to date. You can check for firmware updates via the printer’s control panel or the HP support website.
  • Update the HP Scan and Capture app from the Microsoft Store if available.

Restart the Router:

  • Restart your router to ensure it’s functioning properly. Unplug the router's power cord, wait for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Reinstall HP Printing and Scanning Software:

  • Sometimes the scanning software may have issues. Uninstall HP Scan and Capture and any associated drivers from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest version of the scanning software from the HP website.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Check Printer Configuration:

  • Ensure that the scanner function is enabled and properly configured on your printer’s control panel.

Printer Control Panel:

  • Navigate to the printer’s control panel.
  • Select Scan Settings and ensure that the settings are correctly configured to enable scanning.

Restore Network Defaults:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Network Settings and choose Restore Network Default. This will reset network settings to default and might fix any scanning issues.

I hope this helps.
