Hello everyone,
I have a problem with an Officejet Pro 8122e.
The installation went smoothly and the first printouts were OK. After some time, however, the computer reported that the printer was offline. Sometimes it helped to restart the printer, other times the computer also had to be restarted. I then connected the printer with the LAN cable instead of WLAN, the result was the same. Then I completely reinstalled the printer, which didn't change anything either. Through trial and error, I found that when the printer is reported offline, I have to pull out the paper tray, close it again and select the paper size, then the printer is responsive again.
The whole thing is quite annoying, especially when printing from a notebook in a room next door.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this?

Hi @MarcusRi,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8122e frequently goes offline, even when connected via LAN. Here are some steps you might take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the printer's control panel or via HP's website.
2. Update Printer Drivers
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download them from the HP Support website.
3. Check Printer and Network Settings
- Static IP Address: Assign a static IP address to the printer. This prevents the IP address from changing, which can cause offline issues.
- Network Configuration: Ensure that your router's settings are not blocking the printer. Check firewall settings or other network configurations that might interfere with the printer’s connection.
4. Verify Printer Connectivity
- LAN Connection: Double-check the LAN cable connection and try using a different cable or port on your router.
- WLAN Connection: If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is within range and that there are no interferences.
5. Printer Settings
- Power Management: Disable any power-saving or sleep modes that might be causing the printer to go offline.
- Paper Tray: Since pulling out and re-inserting the paper tray temporarily resolves the issue, ensure the paper tray is seated correctly and there are no obstructions.
6. Restart Devices
- Restart your router, printer, and computer to refresh the network connection.
7. HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can diagnose and fix common printer issues.
8. Check for Network Issues
- If the issue persists, it might be helpful to look into your network setup or consult with your network administrator to ensure there are no underlying issues affecting connectivity.
