We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

macOS 10.15 Catalina

Suddenly the printer doesn't work - the message says it is acquiring an email address and then it says " the ;rinter count not connect to the server. Check the internet connection." (I did check it) "If required enter a proxy address, ensure the proxy details are correct and retry." I've never done anything with a proxy - how do I do that??? the web connection with the printer says it is ready to go -- it is the printer that isn't.

Hi @salpal1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP printer is encountering an issue while trying to connect to the server. There could be several reasons behind this problem, ranging from network connectivity issues to incorrect settings. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem.

  • Check Network Connectivity: Double-check your internet connection to ensure it is working correctly. Try accessing websites or other network services from a computer or smartphone to confirm the internet is functional.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Check Network Settings on Printer: Access your printer's settings or network menu and verify that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Ensure that the Wi-Fi network name and password are correct.
  • Verify Proxy Settings (if applicable): If your network uses a proxy server, make sure the proxy settings on the printer are correct. Access the network settings on the printer and check if there's an option to enter the proxy details. If you are not sure about the proxy settings, you may need to contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP support website. Updating the firmware may resolve known issues.
  • Factory Reset (optional): If the problem persists, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will reset all custom settings, and you'll need to set up the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
