My printer suddenly will not print from my HP laptop or otherwise.  The error message I get says the printer must be connected to the internet but it won't let me do that.

Hi @Steverino4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is showing a “printer must be connected to the internet” error and will not print—this is commonly related to either HP ePrint / Instant Ink / Web Services being stuck or not connected. The printer is offline or not properly connected to Wi-Fi. A firmware or driver issue after a Windows update. Here’s how to troubleshoot this step:

STEP 1: Restart Devices

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Restart your Wi-Fi router (unplug for 30 seconds).
  3. Restart your laptop.
  4. Turn the printer back on after 2 minutes.

STEP 2: Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. On the printer's touchscreen, go to:
    • Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the correct password.
  3. Wait for the connection to complete.
  4. Confirm by printing a Network Configuration Page (optional but helpful).

STEP 3: Check for “Web Services” Issues

If the message says "Connect to the internet" because of HP Instant Ink / ePrint:

  1. On the printer:
    • Go to Setup > Web Services Setup > Remove Web Services.
    • Then re-enable them: Web Services Setup > Enable Web Services.
  2. This often clears the error if it's Instant Ink–related.

STEP 4: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download:
👉 HP Print and Scan Doctor – Official HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows | Free Download hppsdr.exe
  2. Run it on your Windows 11 laptop.
  3. It will detect and auto-fix common issues (offline status, connectivity, queue errors, etc.).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
