Cm1415fnw multifunction printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have the cm1415fnw multifunction blazer printer and I want to know how secure is it when using the photo copy option on the printer it self. Basically when copying private info like account details using the copy button on the printer. This printer connects to the home wifi network which connects to the internet. Now I want to know how the copy process works, ie does it scan the document and save it in file on the printer and then print it? Does the copied info stay in a digital format on the printer? Is it possible for a hacker to connect to the printer and access the photo copied data?

Copy function takes a temporary snapshot of the content loaded into the printer (ADF / glass-flatbed) and dumps that content onto paper.

Copy does not "save" anything on the printer.

Copy does not scan-to-computer and save a file.

Copy is not Scan.

Hacker cannot know / access content that has been photo-copied on the printer.

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it cause I got worried, getting setting paranoid at the moment, was concerned if the copied data was saved to a digital format and be able to be accessed by a hacker, do you work for HP?

You are welcome.

No, I do not work for HP.

I am a Community volunteer.

The answer is based on the way the printer works.

Copy is not saving anything on the printer.

IF you scan images / documents and save those to the computer,

IF your computer is compromised / hacked, documents / images saved on the computer would be at risk as would anything else you store on the computer.  This is completely different from using the Copy function on the printer.

Stay Safe.

Ok, so you do not work for HP, so how do you know the details of how the Cm1415fnw multifunction printer works?

The printer works like others .

Photo copies are not stored on a printer.

Photo copies are not tracked, hidden, or saved.

Printers do not do other than what the hardware is designed to do.

Consumer printers in particular have no hidden agenda to save content that is Copied from an original to a bit of paper.

Yeah, but...

Certainly, this is an interpretation based on my understanding of the methodology.

Your response perhaps indicates you need (or want) to be convinced.

What to do?

Answer your own question - develop a better understanding of printer function and features by reading more on the subject of printer hardware.

Suggested:

Study a bit on the subject of how consumer printers work.

Learning more is a reasonable response when you don't receive an answer that satisfies your interest or "need to know".

There are many articles on the 'net - printer function is an interesting subject for those who like this sort of thing.

Stay Safe.
