HP Laserjet M254dw
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My network system has been in place for several years, working effectively. Yesterday I upgraded my iMac software to Big Sur while my Mac Airbook is still running on Catalina. I am unable to print from either computer at the moment BUT I can print test pages from both. This suggests to me that the printer is still OK and that the network is still functioning. I have also printed out a wireless network report. that indicates no problem.

I have tried reinstalling the M254 on the iMac but with no obvious effect.

Not sure where to go now, hence coming to this site.

Hi @Takiri,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to print from your mac os after the update.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw Driver for macOS 10.15 and 11 is not available from the HP website. However, you can add the printer using Apple AirPrint.

  1. Connect the printer to the same network that the Mac is connected to, or use a direct USB connection

  2. Open the Apple menu , click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  3. Look for your printer in the Printers list.

    • If your printer is listed, remove the printer before you add it with AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the Minus sign , click Delete printer, and then click the Plus sign  to open the Add window.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the Plus sign .

  4. In the Add window, select your printer.

  5. From the Use menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint.

If an AirPrint option is not listed in the menu, select Generic Postscript Printer (preferred) or Generic PCL Printer.

Adding a printer to System Preferences using AirPrint

  6. Click Add to complete the setup.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
