Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I spent 6 hours on chat with Verizon yesterday, trying to get this printer to connect to 5G wireless internet. This wasn't resolved, and they ended by suggesting that I try to change to 2,7 Gz and connect with my new Google Pixel phone. As the printer display has no means of doing this, how would I get my phone to connect the printer to the network? The phone shows my printer as available but offline. Is this printer too old to connect to 5G? Do I need to buy a new printer? I still have the modem from the old IP and the printer connects to it just fine, as I haven't yet terminated that service.  I have completely uninstalled the printer from my computer, and the computer can't find and reinstall it due to this connectivity issue.

Hi @Lonetreekat,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer isn’t connecting to your new 5G Wi-Fi network, even after spending hours troubleshooting with Verizon. Let’s go through a few steps to help you get it reconnected.

a. Understand Wi-Fi Compatibility

Most HP printers only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks — not 5 GHz.

This means the printer won’t detect or connect to a 5 GHz-only network.

You’ll need to ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz band (some routers merge both into one SSID, which can confuse older printers).

b. Enable 2.4 GHz Network on Your Router

Log in to your Verizon router settings (usually through the IP address printed on the router label).

Look for Wi-Fi settings → Advanced settings → Network bands and make sure 2.4 GHz is turned ON.

If both 2.4 and 5 GHz share the same name, temporarily rename the 2.4 GHz band (e.g., “HomeWiFi_2.4G”) to identify it easily.

c. Reconnect Printer via HP Smart App

On your Google Pixel phone, open the HP Smart app.

Tap “+” → Set up a new printer → Wi-Fi.

When prompted, choose the 2.4 GHz network (e.g., “HomeWiFi_2.4G”) and enter the password.

Follow on-screen steps to complete setup.

d. Check Network Mode on Phone

Make sure your phone is also connected to the 2.4 GHz network, not the 5 GHz one, during setup.

The HP Smart app will only detect and set up the printer if both are on the same band.

e. Reinstall on Computer

Once the printer connects successfully to the Wi-Fi, reinstall it on your computer.

Open the HP Smart app or Printers & Scanners in Settings, and select Add a printer.

It should appear automatically once it’s online.

I hope this helps.
