HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

After selecting a document for printing, the item will not print unless I reboot the computer.  This had been an occasional event.  Now it is virtually constant.

Hi @AZ-Sunshine,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Having to reboot your computer every time you want to print can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connection: Ensure that your HP OfficeJet 3830 is properly connected to your computer via USB cable or is connected to the same network if you are using it wirelessly. Sometimes loose connections or network issues can prevent printing.

Printer Status Check: Make sure there are no error messages or warnings on the printer itself, such as paper jams, low ink, or other issues that might prevent it from printing.

Printer Queue: Check the printer queue on your computer to see if there are any stuck print jobs. Sometimes clearing the print queue can resolve printing issues:

  • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer and select "See what's printing". Cancel any pending print jobs.
  • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click "Open Print Queue". Cancel any print jobs in the queue.

Restart Print Spooler Service (Windows): Sometimes restarting the Print Spooler service can resolve printing issues on Windows:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc and press Enter.
  • Locate the "Print Spooler" service, right-click it, and select "Restart".

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing problems. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your operating system.

Restart Your Computer: Since rebooting your computer temporarily resolves the issue, try restarting it when you encounter printing problems to see if it consistently solves the issue.

Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes other software or antivirus programs can interfere with printing. Temporarily disable any antivirus software and see if you can print without rebooting.

Update Operating System: Make sure your computer's operating system is up to date. Updates can sometimes include fixes for printing issues.

Test with Another Computer: If possible, try printing from another computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer or your specific computer.

Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer to its factory settings. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
