Hi @KathyC16,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your new HP printer isn't recognizing your iPad, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check the Printer’s Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad. You can usually check the printer’s Wi-Fi status via the printer's control panel or through its settings.

Use AirPrint:

  • Most modern HP printers support Apple AirPrint, which allows printing directly from your iPad without additional software.
  • Ensure that AirPrint is enabled on your printer. You can check this in the printer’s settings or manual.
  • On your iPad, when you try to print, look for your printer in the print options. It should appear under the AirPrint selection.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your iPad and the HP printer. This can often resolve connection issues.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Make sure your iPad’s iOS is up to date.
  • You may also want to check if there’s a firmware update for your printer via the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.

HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the App Store if you haven’t already.
  • Open the app and follow the setup instructions. The app should automatically detect the printer if it’s on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPad.

Reinstall the Printer:

  • If your iPad still doesn’t recognize the printer, try removing it from the Wi-Fi settings on both the iPad and the printer, and then reconnect them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
