It's frustrating as my old HP deskjet was always available and woke immediately when I would print.

Hi @arizos,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for choosing the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw and for reaching out. We understand how frustrating it can be when your printer enters deep sleep or turns off and doesn’t respond when needed. We're here to help you ensure it's always ready to print when you are.
Adjust Sleep and Auto-Off Settings
Even if you've set them to the longest values, we recommend double-checking or reconfiguring them using the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Find the Printer IP Address
- On the printer's control panel:
Tap Settings > Network Setup > Ethernet or Wireless > View IP Address.
- On the printer's control panel:
- Open a Browser
- Type the IP address into your web browser (e.g., http://192.168.x.x) to access the EWS.
- Type the IP address into your web browser (e.g., http://192.168.x.x) to access the EWS.
- Navigate to Power Management Settings
- Go to System > Power Management.
- Set:
- Sleep Delay = Maximum allowed
- Auto-Off Timer = Disabled (if available)
- Disable IPv6 (Optional Fix)
- Go to Network Settings > IPv6 Configuration.
- If enabled, disable it (some networks handle wake/sleep more reliably without IPv6 enabled).
Issues with HP Smart Not Finding Printer?
This is often caused by the printer being in Deep Sleep or Auto-Off mode.
Recommended Fix:
- Disable Auto-Off Entirely (if option is available).
- Or try enabling "Wake on LAN" or "Network Wakeup" in EWS > Settings > Network > Advanced.
This keeps the printer responsive to print requests from both mobile and desktop devices.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
