Like the previous question. I have a new router. I use a mac, iPad and iPhone and all of these work OK, but my printer will not. Its an "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M280nw" . The screen on the printer is asking for a password as does my wifi connection to the printer from the Mac. I have tried all the passwords I know including the Router password, but no result. Also there is not a password or pin on the label at the back of the printer. Do you know how I might get it going again?

@Joules11, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Make sure you are trying to connect the printer to your home wireless network.

Do you see your wireless network on the printer screen?

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network(2.4 or 5GHz).
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
  • Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar

I much appreciate your help.

I have attached the printer to the Router with an ethernet cable and it works that way, but I am coming up with another problem  which you might be able to help me with. When Igo into settings the printer askes for my password and I have forgotten it. I have tried all the usual ones but without success. How can I find out what my password is (I've tries all the ones I know and registered in the Computer). Do I have to reset the printer to factory connotations and if so how?

@Joules11

Are you trying to access the settings on the EWS page of the printer by using the printer's IP address on a web browser?

If yes, then we have to perform a factory reset.

Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar

I much appreciate the time and trouble you are going to to try and help me. I have tried to access the settings on the EWS page of the printer by using the printer's IP address on a web browser but with no joy. I have tried linking the printer to my MacBook with an ethernet cable but I cannot et it to recognise the new router. I think a factory reset is required, but I do not know how to go about that. So Im afraid more help is required

Warm regards

Julien

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Let me know how it goes.
