Hi @CharlieR1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your wifi setup issues HP DeskJet 3630 All-In-One Printer Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

The printer is within 2 metres of the router.

I do not know if the router is dual band. It is a BT Smart Hub 2 model, which has recently replace my older BT router which worked well with the printer.

I have followed all the advice available on the web, including connecting the printer directly to the router with a cable.

Nothing has worked.

By connecting the printer directly to my computer with a printer-usb cable, I have been able to print documents, but the scan option does not work.

So I cannot connect to the internet, which means that HP cannot monitor my printing activities and ink levels.

And I cannot scan.

Where do I go from here?

I cannot understand why, when there is a direct by cable link from printer to computer, HP Smart cannot diagnose the problem - other than telling me that the printer is offline!

I am afraid that, despite all your help and advice, my printer will still not connect to the new router.

I contacted BT and, after a lengthy interchange, they declared that the fault lies with the printer, this in spite of the fact that it worked perfectly with the old router. So, I have a theory - is it possible that my seven-year old printer is actually incapable of communicating with the latest router, and therefore the only solution is a new printer. your thoughts would be most welcome!
