Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 9018 printer (part of 9010 series).  Got a new internet router and connected printer to it. Printer showed up in HP Smart app on my desktop and works fine wirelesly through the router to my desktop (which is wired to router).   MY  PROBLEM:  I also then wire connected printer to computer USB port, but nothing seems to go through wired connection - always seems to print wirelessly.  No options in desktop settings indicate wired connection and HP Smart gives no options to set up USB connection.  I even tried deleting the printer and re-loading driver from HP web site.  IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET BOTH CONNNECTIONS?  (I would like faster/more private printing option from desktop, while still being able to wirelessly print from my tablet)

@JRH16, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Connecting HP 9010 Series Printer via Both USB and Wireless Connections!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems you're having an issue with your HP 9018 printer from the 9010 series, which is primarily using the wireless connection despite being connected via USB. Let's go through some steps to troubleshoot and enable both connections.

Steps to Verify and Setup:

Check HP Smart App: Ensure that both USB and wireless connections are properly set up on the HP Smart app. Sometimes, the app might prioritize the wireless connection if both are available.

Install USB Drivers: Even if you've set up the printer wirelessly, you might need to install USB drivers. Visit the HP support website to download and install the required drivers for USB connectivity.

Printer Port Configuration:

  • Access the printer settings on your computer.
  • Navigate to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP printer and select "Printer Properties".
  • Select the "Ports" tab.
  • Make sure the USB port is selected for the USB connection. If it’s showing a network port, adjust it accordingly.

Default Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer is set as the default device for both USB and wireless connections.
  • In "Devices and Printers," right-click the printer and set it as the default for your specific needs (USB or Wireless).

Connection Reset:

  • Try resetting the connection by unplugging the USB cable and re-plugging it after a few seconds. It might refresh and reset the connection to prioritize the USB.

Check Printer Settings:

  • On your printer’s control panel, ensure that it's configured to allow multiple connection types simultaneously.
  • You can access these settings via the control panel or embedded web server.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
