Why cant I see word documents in my files through HP print app? I can only view and print PDFs

I suspect you are using HP smart.  The version I have also prints only PDF documents but it does offer an explanation..

 

Print other file types using their associated application:  Word, Outlook, notepad, paint etc.

 

Some devices, such as iPhone, can be tricky to print from as Apple hides the print command under menus such as "..." or "more"
