My Wife has a Galaxy Z flip 5, running Android14 UI 6.11, she has latest HP service plugin and HP Smart but cannot link to and print to our known working Deskjet 3700 series.

 

So we dont waste loads of time doing stuff like uninstalling/reinstalling, checking router settings, resetting devices - all been done already.

 

Location services and device sharing are enabled.

 

I have a Galaxy S23 also running same android and UI level, same versions of HP plugin and HP Smart, which prints with no issues to same printer.

 

Why doesn't the flip printing work? When trying to add a printer it doesn't give the dj3700 series as an option or communicate directly via ip address.

Since your Galaxy Z Flip 5 can't detect or print to the HP DeskJet 3700, but your Galaxy S23 prints fine, the issue is likely device-specific rather than a printer or network problem.

 

Possible Causes & Fixes

1. Ensure Both Phones Are on the Same Network

  • Check if the Z Flip 5 is connected to the same Wi-Fi band as the printer. Some routers use separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
  • The DeskJet 3700 only supports 2.4GHz, so make sure the Z Flip 5 is also on 2.4GHz, not 5GHz.
  • Try switching off mobile data and connect only to Wi-Fi before adding the printer.

2. Check Android’s Print Services

  • Go to Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Preferences > Printing
  • Ensure HP Print Service Plugin is enabled.
  • Tap Default Print Service and check if the printer appears.

3. Manually Add Printer via IP Address
If the printer isn't auto detected:

  1. Open HP Smart → Tap Add Printer
  2. Tap Set Up a New Printer > Add Printer Manually
  3. Enter the printer’s IP address (find it from another device or print a Wi-Fi Configuration Report from the printer).

4. Try a Different Printing Method

  • Use Samsung Print Service Plugin (install from Play Store if needed).
  • Instead of HP Smart, try printing via Google Cloud Print or directly from Samsung Print Service.

5. Test Another Android Device

  • If possible, borrow another Samsung Flip 5 and test printing. If it fails, it could be a Z Flip 5 compatibility issue with HP Smart.

The issue was the phone using the 5ghz short range wifi signal rather than printer preferred 2.4ghz, I asked my wife to go upstairs to attach to longer range 2.4ghz signal, this worked
