Older hp photosmart wireless D110 series printer showing “ invalid wpa passphrase” after trying to connect to new all-fi hub with the password. And the printer shows “cannot connect”  using the same password after trying to connect using the network name as a guest. It used to work fine with the older Gateway router. But now that I switched to the new internet air router the printer is not hooking up. Supposedly the new router is broadcasting up to 5.0 GHz. And the older printer is looking for 2.4 GHz. ??? Shouldn’t the printer still hook up to the router if the router supports 5.0 GHz. ????? Any ideas?? Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi @Grizzly664,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are HP Photosmart D110 printer is likely struggling to connect to the new router due to its 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands. Many older devices, including printers, are designed to connect only to 2.4 GHz networks, so here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Router Frequency Bands:

  • Ensure that your new router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Most modern routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz networks. You should be able to find this information in the router’s settings or user manual.

Separate Frequency Bands:

  • Log in to your router’s settings and look for an option to separate or name the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz networks separately. Sometimes, routers combine both bands under one SSID (network name), which can cause confusion. By naming them separately, you can choose the 2.4 GHz network specifically for your printer.

Reconnect Printer:

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to the wireless setup menu and select the 2.4 GHz network (if you’ve named it separately). Enter the correct WPA passphrase for the 2.4 GHz network.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer that might address connectivity issues with newer routers. Firmware updates are often available on HP’s support website.

Router Settings:

  • Ensure that your router’s security settings are compatible with your printer. WPA2 is commonly used, but some older devices may have trouble with WPA3.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • Perform a network reset on your printer to clear any saved settings that may be causing issues. Then try setting up the connection again.

Consult Documentation:

  • Review the user manual for your HP Photosmart D110 for any specific instructions or settings related to wireless connections.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
