We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer has been connected wirelessly for years to the computers in my house. Suddenly it's gone offline and I can't bring it back. It will print if I connect it with a cable to my laptop but this is inconvenient. I can't download the driver from the disc because it's incompatible with my Mac's current OS.

Hi @carakoala

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re facing a frustrating issue with getting your HP LaserJet P1102w to work wirelessly again. Since it was working before, there are a few things you can try to get it back online. Here's a step-by-step guide that could help you troubleshoot:

1. Check Printer’s Wireless Connection

  • Restart the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Sometimes a reboot can resolve wireless connectivity issues.
  • Check the Wireless Light: Ensure the wireless light on the printer is on. If it’s blinking or off, it could mean the printer isn’t connected to the Wi-Fi network.

2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi Network

If the wireless light is off or blinking, you may need to reconnect the printer to your network:

  • Press the Wireless Button on the Printer: Hold down the Wireless button until the light starts blinking. Then press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes. This will allow the printer to automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network if your router supports WPS.
  • Manual Connection (if no WPS available):
    1. On the printer, press the Wireless button and Go button (this might be the green button depending on your model).
    2. The printer will print out a configuration page showing its current network settings.
    3. Use these settings to access the printer’s embedded web server (you can usually do this by typing the IP address from the config page into a browser on your Mac).
    4. Once you're in the web interface, navigate to the wireless settings and connect to your Wi-Fi network manually.

3. Reinstall Printer Drivers on Your Mac

Since you mentioned the disc driver is incompatible with your Mac’s OS, you’ll need to download the correct driver version:

  • Go to the official HP support page: HP LaserJet P1102w Support.
  • Select Mac OS and download the latest drivers compatible with your version of macOS.
  • After downloading and installing, try adding the printer again through System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

4. Check Network Configuration

  • Ensure your Mac and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, devices can accidentally get connected to a different network, which can cause them to appear offline.
  • Try printing a network configuration page from the printer's menu to check the printer’s network status.

5. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

If the printer is still not connecting, you can try resetting the network settings on the printer:

  • On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Wireless button for about 10 seconds to reset the wireless settings.
  • Then, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network as outlined in step 2.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel, I think I've determined my printer is connected to my wifi. The blue light is solid and the printout page shows my network configuration. So it s h o u l d work. But it doesn't, unless connected with a cord. When I attempt to reinstall the printer driver as your first message instructed, I don't see any recent-enough Mac OS options (I'm now using Sonoma 14.6.1). Nonetheless I downloaded the most recent which hasn't helped. Printing out the device configuration page again, I see the printer is Connected & connected specifically to my Network. So I really have no idea what more I can do. I can still print with a wire connection but it's much less convenient than printing wirelessly. Hard to buy another though. Thank you for trying, but I'm still "offline." Cara

Hi @carakoala,

Thank you for your response

It seems like you've made great progress by confirming that your HP LaserJet P1102w is indeed connected to the Wi-Fi network, but it’s still not printing wirelessly. Let’s go through a few troubleshooting steps to help get this working:

Reinstall Printer Drivers for macOS Sonoma

Although you're using macOS 14.6.1 (Sonoma), the HP LaserJet P1102w may not have direct driver support listed for this version of macOS.

The solution in this case would be to use AirPrint (Apple's built-in wireless printing feature) rather than relying on the specific HP drivers:

  1. On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. If your printer shows up in the list, try selecting it.
  3. If it’s not listed, click the + button to add the printer.
  4. Select your printer from the available list, and make sure it is set to use AirPrint as the printer driver.
  5. Click Add.

If you still have issues, you can download the HP Easy Start utility from HP's website, which will guide you through downloading the right drivers and setting up the printer for macOS.

Ensure Wi-Fi and Mac are on the Same Network

  • Double-check that both your Mac and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you have a dual-band router (both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands), make sure they are on the same band.
  • The printer may have connected to a different band or network from your Mac, which can cause connection issues.
  • To reset the network settings on your HP LaserJet P1102w:
    1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button for about 10 seconds until the wireless light begins blinking.
    2. The printer will reset its network settings and attempt to reconnect to the Wi-Fi.
    3. Follow the Wi-Fi setup instructions again to reconnect it to your network.. Check for macOS Firewall or Security Settings
  • Sometimes, macOS security settings or a firewall can block the printer from communicating wirelessly.
  • Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and ensure that it's not blocking connections.
  • If you’re unsure, you could temporarily disable the firewall (just for troubleshooting) and see if the printer connects.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for any firmware updates for your HP LaserJet P1102w on HP's website. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve wireless connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Sneha, I went to System Settings on my Mac, see this printer listed & selected it to open all the window with all the info on how it's connected. I see my printer & the driver it's supposed to be using (6.9). I added the same printer again & found a way to select AirPrint as you suggested but when I try to print, nothing happens. The message remains Printer is offline & sometimes something about Supplies (I have a new cartridge so it's not a supply problem). I am pretty sure the computers & printer are on the same Wifi network. I'm tired of trying all these things--already having spent hours trying to solve this. Once upon a time I could call HP & get tech help which really is invaluable for non-techies like me, people who struggle to follow all these complicated steps. I've regretfully given up on this printer & bought a new one. Thank you. Cara
