HP's ePrint settings web page

Emailing documents from some devices is the only way to "print" from them, but the sender's email address (over which the user has no control) may contain characters that Internet standards consider valid but the HP ePrint page rejects as "invalid".

On your ePrint page, https://www.hpsmart.com/us/en/myprinter/, the "Allowed" ePrint access form does not accept certain valid email addresses, so this feature cannot be used with some devices unless access is set to "Open to Anyone".

A specific example is the reMarkable tablet for which emailing a document is the only way to print directly from the device. The email it sends with the document as an attachment has the following lines:

Sender: my=remarkable.com@my.remarkable.com
...
From: "..." <my@remarkable.com>

On the ePrint "Allowed" list, adding "my@remarkable.com" does not allow printing from this device. It is not possible to add "my=remarkable.com@my.remarkable.com", because the ePrint page rejects that address with "Please enter a valid email address."

According to IETF RFC 2822 (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822#section-3.2.4), '=' is a valid character in the 'local-part' of an 'addr-spec' email address. (See also other valid characters that HP's form rejects – including 'quoted-string's.)

Please improve your implementation of email address validation to not reject valid email addresses.

Hi @rdj,

I'd like to help!

May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Meanwhile , refer to -Manage HP ePrint Access for Additional Users

Keep me posted.

Sure, it's a Color LaserJet Pro M252dw, however, the problem almost certainly has nothing to do with the printer itself. It is the ePrint web page that is rejecting valid email addresses. It won't allow me to enter such addresses into the list of allowed emails.

@rdj,

From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Connection Information button. 2. Open the following menus: ● ePrint ● Settings 3. Touch the disbale Web Services button and then enable webservices and then check.
