Hi @CT591,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you need to perform a factory reset on your Officejet Pro 6978 printer to resolve the issue with the locked feature. Here's a general guide on how to do it.

  • Turn off the Printer: Make sure the printer is turned off before proceeding.
  • Press and Hold Buttons: Locate the buttons on your printer. Usually, for a factory reset, you might need to press and hold specific buttons simultaneously. For HP printers, this often involves holding down the power button and one or more other buttons.
  • Perform the Factory Reset: Press and hold the necessary buttons for a few seconds until the printer resets. This might involve holding the power button and another button or a combination of buttons. Refer to your printer's manual for the specific button combination required for a factory reset.
  • Wait for Reset: After pressing the buttons, continue holding them until the printer begins the reset process. You may see some lights flash or hear some sounds indicating that the reset is in progress.
  • Release Buttons: Once the reset process starts, you can release the buttons. The printer will continue the reset process on its own.
  • Complete Setup: After the factory reset is complete, the printer will restart. You'll need to set it up again, including connecting it to your network if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
