Hi @AVRUME, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 is showing "Scanning Unavailable" in the HP Smart app on Windows 10 (32-bit), try these troubleshooting steps:

Restart Everything

  1. Restart the Printer – Turn it off, unplug for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  2. Restart Your PC – A simple reboot may fix communication issues.
  3. Restart the Router – If using Wi-Fi, restart your router to refresh the connection.

Check Scanner Connection

  • Open HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    1. Download it from HP Print and Scan Doctor
    2. Run the tool and select your printer.
    3. Click Fix Scanning and follow the instructions.

Reinstall HP Smart and Printer Drivers

  1. Uninstall HP Smart:
    • Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features
    • Find HP Smart, click Uninstall
  2. Uninstall Printer Drivers:
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right-click your printer and select Remove device
    • Open Device Manager > Imaging Devices and Printers, uninstall any related drivers
  3. Reinstall HP Smart:
  4. Reinstall Printer Drivers:
    • Download full drivers from HP Support
    • Install and follow the setup instructions

Check Windows Scanning Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down and find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  3. Right-click it and select Restart.
  4. Ensure Startup Type is set to Automatic.

Test with Another Scanning App

Try scanning with:

  • Windows Fax and Scan (Search "Windows Fax and Scan" in Start Menu)
  • HP Scan and Capture from the Microsoft Store

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
