I'm very disappointed with HP support. The virtual agent sucks, my problem is too specific for that. It's probably 3 different problems that I'd like to talk to a real person about. However, the HP website claims to have support options of "chat, phone and email" but after I entered my device's serial number to receive support options, I was only provided with the community forum thing, which is not a great option because this will take forever for me to hear back from someone, if at all. My printer for some reason will not connect to my Wifi router even when I enter in the details manually. So, I used a USB cable to connect printer to my laptop which has worked successfully for me in the past but for some reason is not working. Maybe because I have a new macbook with the newest MAC OS driver (MAC OS Big Sur 11.2) and HP only has the MAC OS 11 driver? Still, I don't even think I HAVE to have a HP driver to print if using a USB cable connection. In the past, I believe I didn't have the HP Smart/Utility apps downloaded on my computer and was able to print just fine because of the USB connection. Now, when I click print, it says "waiting for printer to become available" so I don't know what else to do. I've reset printer settings, unplugged it, removed and re-added my printer to my "printers" list on my computer settings and so forth, but nothing has worked.

Hi @Hcreed100,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the connectivity issue.

To better assist you -

  1.  I would like to know, is your router set to work on 2.4 GHz network or 5 GHz network band?
  2. What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking?
  3. Are you trying to connect your printer to your home network or public network?
  4.  Is there antivirus software installed on your Mac? If yes, please try disabling it and check if it works.

While you respond to that, go to System Information to check the if the USB is detected or not -

a.) From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.

b.) Click System Report.

c.) Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.

If the device is not detected, it may not be receiving enough power or it may be blocked by internet security software. You may also try other ports on the hub or a different cable.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
