Hi @susiecain ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer is not connecting to your laptop,

here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Connection Type

  • USB Connection: If you are using a USB cable, ensure it is properly connected to both the printer and laptop. Try using a different USB port or cable.
  • Wireless Connection: If you are using WiFi, make sure both your printer and laptop are connected to the same WiFi network.

2. Restart Devices

  • Turn off your printer, unplug it from power, and wait for 30 seconds.
  • Restart your laptop.
  • Turn your printer back on and try to reconnect.

3. Check Printer Status

  • Ensure the printer is turned on.
  • On the printer’s display panel, check for any error messages or warnings.
  • If the printer is in offline mode, make sure to set it to online.

On Windows:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Open Queue.
  • Under Printer in the top menu, ensure that Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix any connection issues automatically:
    • HP Print and Scan Doctor

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager and uninstall the current printer driver.
  • Reinstall the latest drivers from the HP support website:
    • HP ENVY 4520 Drivers
  • Restart your laptop after installing the drivers.

6. Check HP Smart App (If Applicable) HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • If you're using the HP Smart app, try removing the printer from the app and adding it again.
  • Make sure the app is up to date.

7. Network Reset (For Wireless Connections)

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.
  • Then, re-add the printer on your laptop.

8. Firewall/Antivirus Check

  • Disable any firewall or antivirus temporarily to check if they are blocking the printer connection.

9. Use a Different Connection Method

  • If wireless connection fails, try connecting via USB to rule out any network issues.

10. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure that your router’s firewall isn’t blocking the printer’s connection.
  • Make sure there are no MAC address filters or other restrictions on your router that could block the printer.
