Hi @lt122,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer won’t connect to the internet when you try to update it. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Wi‑Fi Band

Most HP printers only support 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi.

If your router is set to 5GHz only, enable or create a 2.4GHz network and connect the printer there.

Verify Network Connection on Printer

On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.

Select your Wi‑Fi network and re‑enter the password carefully.

Confirm the printer shows “Connected” with an IP address.

Test Internet Access

If the printer connects to Wi‑Fi but still can’t reach the web, check if your router has firewall or parental controls blocking the printer.

Temporarily disable these and test again.

Assign a Static IP Address

In the printer’s Embedded Web Server (type its IP in a browser), set a static IP outside the router’s DHCP range.

This prevents the printer from losing connection when the router reassigns addresses.

Update Firmware via USB (Alternative)

If the printer cannot connect online, you can download the firmware update from HP’s support site on your PC.

Transfer it to the printer using a USB cable.

This bypasses the need for direct internet access.

Restart Devices

Restart the router, printer, and computer.

This refreshes all network connections.

I hope this helps.
