Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP Laser MFP 137 fnw
Microsoft Windows 11

The driver I downloaded from your official website cannot be installed, because during setup I get a message that it "does not see" the printer that is already connected via USB port.

It is absurd that HP DOctor sees it and provides all the information. I can print via HP Doctor but I cannot connect via WIFI, which is my main goal.
Please help.

Hi @Makidom

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying this out so clearly—I'm really sorry you're stuck in this frustrating loop. You're absolutely right: if HP Print and Scan Doctor can detect the printer via USB, the full driver package should too. The fact that it doesn't "see" the printer during setup suggests a mismatch in detection logic or a blocked network configuration.

Let’s walk through a clean, targeted setup to get your HP Laser MFP 137fnw working over Wi-Fi on Windows 11:

Step-by-Step Wi-Fi Setup for HP Laser MFP 137fnw

1. Reset Printer’s Network Settings

To ensure it’s ready for Wi-Fi setup:

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds.
  • This resets the wireless settings and enables Wi-Fi Setup Mode (active for ~2 hours).

2. Use HP Smart App for Wi-Fi Setup

HP Smart is the most reliable way to connect this model wirelessly.

Download from Microsoft Store:
HP Smart for Windows

Open HP Smart and click Add Printer.

It should detect your printer in setup mode.

Follow the prompts to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

⚠️ Important: Make sure your PC is on the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to join. Disable VPNs or firewalls temporarily if setup fails.

3. Install Full Feature Driver After Wi-Fi Setup

Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi:

Download the full driver package:
HP Laser MFP 137fnw Full Software for Windows 11

Run the installer. It should now detect the printer over the network and complete installation.

4. Set Printer as Default

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click the HP Laser MFP 137fnw (network version) > Set as default printer.

If Setup Still Fails

  • Run HP Diagnose & Fix Tool to resolve detection and driver conflicts.
  • Ensure Print Spooler service is running (services.msc > Print Spooler > Start).
  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or firewall software.

You're doing everything right—once the printer is on Wi-Fi, the full driver should install without issue.

Let me know if you'd like help checking the printer’s IP address or confirming network connectivity. We’ll get this sorted together.
