I've tried disconnecting the printer from the network and printing diagnostics and this worked fine.  I also swapped out ethernet cables and used a different port, but as soon as I plug the printer in I get this error and the printer locks up.  I can ping the printer's IP, so it seems to be able to communicte with the network just fine.

What should I do to fix this problem?

Do you mean:

  • As soon as I plug the printer in to a power socket ..., or
  • As soon as I plug the printer into the network

If the latter, then it is quite likely that something on your network is sending a rogue/corrupt print job, which is badly malformed and causing the language interpreter in the firmware to crash.

Yes, I mean the ethernet cable, and agree with your assessment about the rouge print job.

Do you know what I would have to do to stop that print? Is it a matter of going to every computer and checking their ques?

I found the culprit faster than I thought!  Eliminating the print did the job!  Thank you!
