Hi @sdken,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

As I understand you are unable to print unless you open/close the printer top on your HP printer. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you,

To help you better, could you provide me with the Model number of the printer and the Operating System installed on the PC? If you're not sure how to find that information, please click here for the instructions.

Product Number: - Click here

Operating System: - (Windows) (Mac)

What is the error message?

Try to perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is directly connected to the wall outlet.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Firmware for the printer, using this link. (If available).

Please follow the support document, Click here

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that's awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck
